How does cell therapy work – Important For Veterinarian!for veterinarian

The active ingredient of cell therapy is mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) which are adult multipotent stem cells that have the potential to regenerate the degenerated cartilage and, in addition, prevent the formation of scar tissue. MSC also exert trophic, immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects and activate the body’s own stem/progenitor cells, modulating the local environment and thereby stimulating a local tissue repair. Their ability to form cartilage, their low immunogenicity and known anti-inflammatory effects make adipose-derived stem cells an ideal candidate for cartilage repair.

Allogeneic stem cell therapy

Medrego EquiCell and CaniCell* are efficient stem cell therapy products that contain allogeneic, healthy donor-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). These products are standardized and can be easily stored in a freezer.

The benefit of Allogenic Stem Cell Therapy is in its ease of use – the product is ready for the moment when you need it. You just need to take it out of the freezer and defrost it.

In order to obtain allogenic stem cells for the product, a non-invasive procedure is required. This product contains cells from another, young and healthy animal.

Allogenic Stem Cell Therapy can help in tendon, ligament, joint and cartilage injury treatment as well as animals overall health improvement.

*Medrego EquiCell and CaniCell are not medicinal products** or veterinary drugs. Medrego EquiCell and CaniCell contain unmodified sterile animal mesenchymal tissue cells only for transplantation in horses/dogs/cats. The product is made for a specific doctor’s order.
** Definition of a veterinary medicinal product in the European Union can be found in Article 2 of Directive 2004/28/EC, an amendment of Directive 2001/82/EC relating to veterinary medicinal products.

Autologous stem cell therapy

Cell therapy product derived from the animal’s own (autologous) adipose tissue-derived MSC provides the regenerative effect.

Autologous Stem Cell Therapy takes about 2-3 weeks to be ready to use, and the efficiency of this treatment depends on the overall health of the individual animal – patient.

In order to obtain autologous stem cells for therapy, the animal must be anesthetized and surgical procedures must be performed to extract cells needed for the therapy.

Autologous Stem Cell Therapy can be used to treat the same animal injuries and diseases that can be treated with Allogenic Stem Cell Therapy. The success rate of both treatments has been proven in many studies and cases.

Medrego will provide the kit for the collection of adipose tissue required to perform autologous cell therapy.
